International Day of the Seafarer marked in Batumi

International Day of the Seafarer has been marked in Batumi today. Irakli Kobakhidze, the Prime Minister of Georgia; Tornike Rijvadze, the Chairman of the Autonomous Republic of Ajara; Levan Davitashvili, the Vice Prime Minister of Georgia and Alex Akhvlediani, the Head of Maritime Transport Agency attended the event.

‘First of all, I would like to congratulate you all on the International Day of Seafarers and thank you for your honorable and dedicated service. I would like to congratulate the freshmen who took the oath today and wish them honorable service and worthy continuation of our proud naval traditions. The maritime sector and each sailor involved in this sector plays a special role not only in the economy of our region, but also in the entire country’ – Tornike Rijvadze said while addressing the attendees.

‘We are constantly working together with the Maritime Transport Administration to strengthen student support, access to education, as well as the introduction of international standards and technologies that will enable each student and seafarer to be competitive and represent this profession and our country in all parts of the world with dignity,’ -Tornike Rijvadze said.

Representatives of the Georgian government, local authorities and the diplomatic corps attended the event dedicated to the International Day of the Seafarer.
