International-standard Ice Arena opens in Batumi

Prime Minister of Georgia Irakli Kobakhidze, together with the Chairman of the Government of the Autonomous Republic of Ajara Tornike Rijvadze, opened an international-standard Ice Arena in Batumi.

The head of government got acquainted with the work carried out, toured the ice arena and met with athletes. According to Irakli Kobakhidze, such an infrastructure will provide an additional incentive for young people to get involved in sports.

‘The newly built ice palace in Batumi is designed for 1,500 spectators. The Youth Winter Festival will also be held here, which will start tomorrow at the Ice Palace. This is an important infrastructure for the whole country. Approximately 450 young people in Batumi are involved in this sport, and the new hall will give new impetus to children and young people to become more actively involved in this sport,’ - Irakli Kobakhidze said.

International-standard sports lighting, scoreboards and sound systems have been installed on the ice arena, and the stands are designed for 1,500 spectators. The sports facility will feature conference and choreography halls, coaches’ and referees’ rooms, locker rooms and bathrooms. The arena will host the 2025 Winter Youth Olympics from February 9.

Next year, the complex will have the opportunity to host international competitions in figure skating and mass skating, as well as ice and water sports. The complex, along with the ice arena, also includes a swimming pool, which will start operating by the end of the year. The total cost of the project is 53,943,280 GEL.
